Prayer For Community Leaders

Heavenly Father, just as you gave wisdom to Moses to appoint elders among the Israelites, you blessed our founders with the wisdom to divide our country into individual states. You have empowered our governors and state legislatures to make laws and decrees which manage our daily lives, make our lives safe, and protect us from federal government overreach. We pray for our governors and our state legislatures. Please give strength and wisdom to them and guide their decisions and may they always put love first. Surround them with people from all walks of life and many backgrounds. Bring to them people of high moral character and spiritual maturity. Among the many voices which cry out to them every day, may they hear your voice above all others. As we look to our governors for assurance and guidance, especially at times of crisis, inspire them and speak through them by the power of your Holy Spirit.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Father, our president carries an enormous burden. The decisions made by the President of the United States affect the lives of people not just in our nation, but all over the world, and he especially needs your touch to lead. Strengthen him, Lord. Give him wisdom and grace. Let him speak and act with honesty and integrity in all situations. Give him a glimpse of how much you love him and how much you love the world you created. Draw him to yourself, Jesus, into an ever-closer relationship with you. Anoint him with your Holy Spirit. Speak to him in the quiet moments as well as amid the chaos. Soften his heart and make him a true servant leader.

Bring strong, wise, and spiritually mature people to surround him. Speak truth to him through the voices of those he trusts. Give him wisdom to reject the voices of those who would urge him to seek only personal power and glory. Let him know, deep in his soul, that only with and through YOU is the victory won. Only through your power is our country and our world made whole.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Father, I'm praying for (name them) and other government and community leaders throughout our towns, cities, states, and nation Save those who are not yet Your own. Give those in authority wisdom in every decision, and help them to think clearly. Grant them discernment and common sense so they'll be strong and effective leaders. (Titus 3:5; James 1:5; Proverbs 3:21).Help them to lead and govern with integrity, and may their integrity guide them and keep them on track. (1 Kings 9:4; Proverbs 11:3a; Psalm 78:72; 1 Timothy 2:14)

Be merciful to give us leaders who are Spirit-filled and follow Your principles. Direct their steps according to Your Word for their decisions have a great impact on our lives! (Ephesians 5:18b; Psalm 119:105, 133a)

Be their defender and protector, and keep them always on guard. Help those who are Christians to be strong and courageous, standing firm in their faith and influencing others for Your kingdom. Encourage and strengthen them, giving them the wisdom they need. Help them to have courage and faith in You, no matter what they're facing day-to-day. (Proverbs 23:11; Psalm 41:2a; 1 Corinthians 16:13; Deuteronomy 1:38; 3:28; 2 Chronicles 1:10a; Acts 27:22, 25)In Jesus' name, Amen.

(Pray) on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Good News, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Ephesians 6:19-20) Brothers, pray for us.

Father, we are so grateful to be living in a democracy where many play a part in making sure the needs and desires of the nation's citizens are heard and met. As our leaders work together to find solutions to difficult problems, we ask that You guide them to speak respectfully and with humility to one another. Help them to show Christ-like love to those they interact with and be an advocate for their constituents and others.

We are so grateful for the staff of our leaders, Lord. They have such an important job keeping the offices running as they should. Thank You for the ways You have gifted them to support so well. Wrap your arms around these men and women to show them love, grace, strength, and encouragement. Provide them with the knowledge needed to approach each situation in the best way possible. Help them to know You and see Your presence in the work they do. And, Father, give them the stamina to approach each day and to find a balance between work and life so that they would be sustained.

Today, O God. I hold before you the rulers of the nations
Kings, Queens, Presidents, Prime Ministers all who
are in positions of supreme leadership.

I can be quick to criticize: help me, Lord to first enter
their dilemma. On most issues of state I have the luxury
of withholding judgment, of not committing myself,
of sitting on the fence. Even when I have an opinion,
it has little influence and seldom any consequence.
Not so with rulers of the nations.
To the extent that they really lead, they must
make decisions, even if they are poor ones.

Help these leaders, O God, in the loneliness of their decisions.
Put wise counselors around them.

Take, I pray, the bits and pieces of virtue that are
in each ruler and cause them to grow and mature.
And take all the destructive motives and cause
them to vanish like smoke in the wind.

Lord, I know that many and perhaps most
rulers do not know you, nor do they seek you.
But you seek them! Help them see how good right decisions are.
And where decisions must be made that are not in their
own interest, deepen their sense of duty. Having seen
the light, give them the courage to walk in the light.
Amen.

Give us, O God,
leaders whose hearts are large enough
to match the breadth of our own souls
and give us souls strong enough
to follow leaders of vision and wisdom.

In seeking a leader, let us seek
more than development for ourselves
though development we hope for
more than security for our own land
though security we need
more than satisfaction for our wants
though many things we desire.

Give us the hearts to choose the leader
who will work with other leaders
to bring safety
to the whole world.

Give us leaders
who lead this nation to virtue
without seeking to impose our kind of virtue
on the virtue of others.

Give us a government
that provides for the advancement
of this country
without taking resources from others
to achieve it.

Give us insight enough ourselves
to choose as leaders those who can tell
strength from power,
growth from greed,
leadership from dominance,
and real greatness from the trappings of grandiosity.

We trust you, Great God,
to open our hearts to learn from those
to whom you speak in different tongues
and to respect the life and words
of those to whom you entrusted
the good of other parts of this globe.

We beg you, Great God,
give us the vision as a people
to know where global leadership truly lies,
to pursue it diligently,
to require it to protect human rights
for everyone everywhere.

We ask these things, Great God,
with minds open to your word
and hearts that trust in your eternal care.
