Prayer For Candidacy

Lord Jesus, I pray that you would be with me, to enable me to make the final preparations for my Finals. Lord, You have been my helper and my strength throughout this demanding programme of studies, and I pray that You will be close to me as I face the challenges that lie ahead of me as I approach the end of my time here.

Grant me the strength to face the inevitable pressures that will arise as I prepare for my final exams, and guide my studies as I prepare for this important period of my life.

Keep my mind focussed on what is important. Help me not to become distracted by peripheral activities or people, but rather help me to stay my mind on these exams and manage my time in a wise manner.

Lord, my life and my future is in Your hands. I pray that I may do well in these exams and may all I do in these exams be honouring to You. I will not fear, knowing that You have promised to hold my right hand. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Lord God, Thank you for this opportunity to learn new skills and stretch my understanding. Thank you for guiding me through this time of study into the final exams. I lay before you all the hopes and fears I have about the outcome.

"God of grace and God of mercy, grant unto these aspirants for service a spirit of humility.
So that they may be constantly reminded of their frailty and their need for inter dependence and may they be constantly reminded of their obligation to country and to God.
Grant unto them composure and a keen sense of purpose as they undertake the task before them.
May their hearts be filled with compassion and may their minds be lucid and open.
Take away thoughts of victimization, nepotism, cronyism and anything that speaks to a belittling of the human person.
May they be magnanimous in victory and gracious in defeat.
May those who are victorious recognize the true nature of service and seek at all times to bless and protect those they are called to lead.

God of encouragement and inspiration pour out on these aspiring and would be representatives your spirit of peace, your spirit of forbearance, your spirit of tolerance and your spirit cooperation.
Grant them wisdom, grant them understanding and grant them knowledge of that which it takes to facilitate and maintain a peaceful, prosperous and godly parish and by extension a country teeming with courageous, bright and forward looking people.
Merciful God, forgive them when they err;
Grant them courage in moments of weakness and uncertainties and may they show respect for views and opinions different from theirs.
So, gracious God
Embue them with the requisite disposition to compete with passion but not hate
To campaign with rigour but not malice
And to speak forcefully but not contemptuously.
May righteousness, truth and fair play garnish and govern their every action.
Hear our prayer, o God, and guide their movements and their manners.
Moreover, we beseech You to remind them of the pledge they made so that they will make every effort to abide by Jamaica's Political Code of Conduct to which they have affixed their signature.
This we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen"

Our Father, we come before you recognizing that we desperately need you to intervene in our nation and send revival to our land. We confess that we've rebelled against you and tried to establish ourselves as kings instead of submitting to your authority. Forgive us for trusting in our government and our leaders when we should have been trusting in you alone.

We thank you for allowing us to live in this country where we have the freedom to vote for our leaders. Please help us as a nation to vote according to consciences that are informed by principles of integrity and wisdom. Please bless and protect those of all political parties who are running for office, from the White House to the statehouse to the courthouse. Grant that those seeking office would do so for the good of others, and not their own prosperity. May they lead with wisdom and integrity. Most importantly, grant that they may know you as their king in order that they may rule as humble servants in this land and for eternity with you, along with all the saints.

In humble submission to your sovereign rule, amen.

Father, the hearts of the kings, leaders, presidents, congressman, and sheriffs are streams of water in the palms of your hands. You direct them. You turn them. Every one of them is acting in such a way that will only advance the agenda that you've set since the beginning of time. Help us as a church to remember that truth.

As sure as some of us are panicking right now, because what seemed to be an unfathomable outcome a few months ago seems like it could actually be a possibility, I pray that you would remind us that as far as you're concerned, there's nothing new under the sun. It's new to us, but you've seen this before. You've dealt with worse. You're not panicking.

So Father, we ask that you would guide and direct our leadersall of themin such a way that enables us to live peaceful and quiet lives. Give our President wisdom, grace, compassion, and conviction as he's completing his service to our country. Give him special insight and unction to have concern for the defenselessall the little guys, from those in the womb to those who are working extremely hard but low-paying jobs that might cause them to feel ashamed of bringing new life into the world. I pray that these people, these stories, these faces would be implanted on his heart and would cause him to move out in grace and compassion.

Above all else, Father, remind us that in this room right now, though our earthly politics may differ and the human faces in charge may change, the constant is that our true king always sits on the throne and never changes. So I pray that as your will is revealed to us in the near future, we wouldn't be gripped with fear. Knowing you means we don't have to know the future. Remind us of that truth, and help us walk in faithfulness and unity together

Lord,

You move in the hearts of people to accomplish your sovereign will. During an election, every candidate feels she or he is the best choice, or they would not be running for office. Sometimes You do not always want the best person to win, because your purposes and plans are very complex. We would like to believe that most of the time, however, You do want the more ethical and wiser individual to serve. You want your children to vote wisely, with conviction. We pray, Lord, that if I am the best candidate, and if it is Your sovereign will, that you would allow me to serve my constituents by being elected. But what is most important is Your will, not mine. And that is what I ask for. Help me to do my part with enthusiasm, and then to rest in Your hands, I pray, in Jesus' Name, Amen.
