Prayer For Africa

Our Lord and God Almighty,

we praise you,
for you created us all and made us
into many different tribes and nations,
that we may befriend one another
and that we may not despise each other.

Open our hearts, we pray,
so that we may respond to the needs
of all our brothers and sisters.

Oh Lord Jesus, bless all our lands
with more lasting peace and fraternal understanding.

Above all, heavenly Father,
touch the hearts of our political leaders
and all those in power.

We pray that they may exercise power gently,
that they may humbly seek a disinterested dialogue
that will bring about understanding,
leading us all to a place where all nations and all people
live together in peace and harmony.

Where there is bitterness teach us forgiveness and reconciliation,
replace hatred with love and indifference with care.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Lord, we pray for the continent of Africa.

Father, we have heard about the abject poverty there and some of us have even been there. We pray that You will uplift the lives of the people in these countries and use us as Your agents of change wherever You have placed us.

In Africa, we pray for political stability in the countries of Somalia, Congo, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and other countries. Change the hearts and minds of the leaders of Africa that they will stand for the poor and fight poverty with their policies.

We pray for the millions in Africa who don't have things that we take for granted: like electricity, running water, hot meals and a healthy life. Lord, we pray that the economic development in these parts of the world will be expedited, and that can be made possible only through Your power.

We also pray for the persecuted church in Africa, especially in Nigeria and Somalia. We pray for Your church to grow in the land where many have no hope for their future.

Lord, we pray that South Africa will be completely cleansed from racist tensions. We pray for the end of violence in all parts of the continent. We also pray for the doctors, nurses and aid workers who are selflessly serving the poor in some of the toughest parts of Africa. Protect them and strengthen them Lord.

Lord, we ask for Your healing and supernatural strength for those who have been sexually abused by warlords and persecutors. Lord, we ask for Your mighty favor and protection to accompany those who are involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of these people.

Lord, we pray that the countries' agricultural potential will be fully utilized to meet the food demands of the continent. We ask for Your blessings upon the land and the hands of countless farmers there.

We pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Dear Lord, Thank You for every donor who supports World Vision child sponsorship in East Africa. Their faithfulness enables so much good to be done in Your name. We know this brings You pleasure because it supports the poor, the widow, and the orphan. Help community members to continue this hard work of making their communities places where all children are nurtured, loved, protected, healthy, educated, and strong.

Heavenly Father, be with little ones as they seek to learn. Provide their parents with the means to send them to school well fed so the only hunger they know is an insatiable hunger to learn. Equip them with an education that prepares them to do the great things You have planned for their lives.

Dear Lord, in Your earthly ministry, You had compassion for people who were hungry and thirsty. Thank You for allowing World Vision staff to work alongside families in Tanzania and around the globe. We ask You to cultivate this work to change people's lives forever.

Dear Lord, You have watched the birth of so many nations throughout the ages. Grant wisdom to the leaders of South Sudan as they face many challenges at this early time in their country's history.

Dear Lord, in developed countries like the United States, we seldom think about the blessing of food, clothing, and shelter. Today, we thank You for these basic necessities in our lives. And we are also grateful for the same life-saving gifts from World Vision partners for refugees in Uganda. We ask You to guard refugees' health in the camps.

Dear Lord, You are Creator of heaven and earth. Rain falls where You send it. Please send consistent rain, Lord, for crops to grow and for people and livestock to drink in the Horn of Africa. Heal the bodies of precious little ones who suffer from malnutrition, and strengthen the men and women who are working hard to return them to full health.
